Trial Sessions at Riverside Canoe Club

If you have a child between the ages of 8 and 18 years old and they are interested in having a trial (three sessions) at the Chester Riverside Canoe Club then this information is for you:-

Step One:- contact the treasurer by emailing:
Treasurer@ChesterRiversideCC.onmicrosoft.com
to secure a suitable date for when your child can attend a session or add your childs name to the waiting list.

New paddler numbers are limited for safety reasons so you may be placed on a waiting list.

Step Two:- complete the attached membership form, print it off and bring the completed form with you on the Sunday morning that we agree you can attend.  We need one form per person.

When attending your first session
You should aim to arrive at the Chester Riverside Centre around 9.15am so that we can make sure you have enough time to get kitted out with a boat and equipment ready for the debrief and onto the water at 10.00am.   The session usually lasts until 12 noon.  Subsequent sessions we would ask you to down no later than 9.30am.

The cost is £7 per session, you are able to undertake three trial sessions.  After the three sessions you will need to decide if you want them to continue paddling and if you do, they need to become a member.  This is £35 per year and runs from 1st January to 31st December.   The sessions are then £7 each for those sessions attended only.

What do I need to wear?
In terms of clothing, wetsuits would be ideal, but if you don’t have one and many people don’t, then we recommend that you wear light layers of sports clothing if you have them, like running tops, fleeces, running or football leggings or walking trousers.  We don’t recommend things like sweatshirts, joggers or jeans as they get heavy when wet and take a very long time to dry.  We do have a few wet suits available at club that you are welcome to try to see if they fit, but we don’t have wetsuits in all sizes.

In terms of footwear, we recommend either wet shoes like the children would wear at the beach or old trainers you don’t mind them getting wet.  Please no crocs as they tend to get stuck in the kayaks or fall off if they fall out of the boat.  Again, we do have some spare pairs of wet shoes that you are welcome to see if they fit, but we can’t guarantee the correct size will be available.

What do I need to bring with me?
You need to bring with you a towel and a spare set of clothes for after the session just in case you get wet.  Changing rooms are available.

Parking is available on the grass at the top on the right as you come through the gates to the Chester Riverside Centre.

We ask that prior to attending the first session you please make yourself and your child/children aware of the below Codes of Conduct and Changing room policy so that everyone is aware of what’s expected both as a paddler and parent and you are able to ensure you follow the Changing room etiquette and help us with the appropriate Safeguarding actions.
